Dental Health
Untreated dental disease is painful and will progress to bone infection and possibly even internal organ infection and damage if untreated.
The American Veterinary Dental Association and The American Animal Hospital Association both recommend dental x-rays, scaling and polishing annually starting at 1 year of age for all cats and small breed dogs and starting at 2 years of age for large breed dogs. Since greater than 50% of dental disease is below the gumline, dental x-rays are considered critical to treating dental disease and maintaining dental health.
At Caring Hands Animal Hospital of Live Oak, we include full-mouth dental radiographs in every dental procedure. Early and comprehensive dental care is essential to help your pet keep his/her teeth for as long as possible.
